Kirsty Hames' project was focussed on her journey from her arrival in Hastings two years ago to, over time, establishing a new home for herself. To do this she cleverly used the format of a series of postcards sent to her mum in which she describes her new life. Her approach was witty and playful. Not only did her format enable her to work sequentially but also the messages sometimes explained and sometimes contradicted the front image.....Kirsty was not always truthful, sometimes she was ironic and sometimes she merely suggested a possibility. Whatsmore, reading the postcards seemed rather nosey; prying into someone else's business .. a recipe for hooking an audience if ever there was one.
